MARÍA BOTANA VILAR INTEGRATES AIEG’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS
CIAC researcher Maria Botana Vilar was elected by AIEG — Asociación Internacional de Estudos Galegos assembly to integrate the direction of the association, alongside Prof. Carlos Pazos-Justo, from the University of Minho.
The new board of directors’ plan has the motto “Visibilizar, articular, fortalecer, Portugal/ Lusofonia” [Make it visible, articulate, strengthen, Portugal/Lusophony]. The aim is to promote networking within Galician studies at an international level, as well as continued dialogue with the lusophone world.
The Asociación Internacional de Estudos Galegos [International Association for Galician Studies] was founded in the 80s and held its first conference in 1985 at the University of Maine (USA). The association’s first president was Prof. Kathleen March. Since then, it has organized conferences every three years in order to promote and expand knowledge about Galician culture around the world. The association currently has about two hundred members from different European and American universities.
In September 2022, CIAC coordinator Mirian Tavares and CIAC researchers María Botana Vilar and Olivia Novoa Fernández participated in XIII Congress of the International Association of Galician studies, in Warsaw. The next AIEG Congress will take place at the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal) in 2024.
