CIAC JOINS THE ALGARVE INTERNATIONAL FILM AND LITERATURE FESTIVAL (FICLA)

From June 2 to 11, 2022, FICLA – International Film and Literature Festival of the Algarve will be held in Faro, and CIAC/University of Algarve is associated with the initiative. This event proposes a wide cinema programme, conversations, masterclasses and other initiatives about the relationship between writing and the seventh art.

This year’s edition presents a full retrospective of the work of filmmaker Trinh T. Minh-ha. From her curriculum, 9 films will be presented: A Tale of Love (1995), Forgetting Vietnam (2015), Naked Spaces – Living is Round (1985), Night Passage (2004), Reassemblage (1982), Shoot for the Contents (1991), Surname Viet Given Name Nam (1989), The Fourth Dimension (2001) and What About China? (2021). In addition, Trinh T. Minh-ha will conduct a masterclass on his work process.

Trinh T. Minh-ha is an artist, writer, poet, filmmaker, composer and professor at the University of Berkeley (USA). Her film work has as its main axis a transversal look on cultural differences between or within different groups. Moving away from the centres, her films travel across borders, through hybrids, through gaps, through the multiple, showing us that differences are not necessarily points of rupture, but rather a constant challenge to think about limits. Trinh T. Minh-ha’s cinema has been present in the most relevant film festivals (Berlin Festival, Toronto, Sundance, Locarno, Viennale, among others).

FICLA is co-produced by Faro City Council and will take place at IPDJ Faro, Museu Municipal de Faro, Biblioteca Municipal de Faro António Ramos Rosa, CIAC – Arts and Communication Research Centre/University of Algarve, 9th DeVIR/CAPa – Algarve Performing Arts Centre and ARCM – Musicians Recreational and Cultural Association.
