Soraya Vasconcelos opens “devorar e não digerir” [devour and not digest]
The exhibition “devorar e não digerir” opens on May 08, at 6:30 p.m., at the Trem Gallery, in Faro. The event, which marks the conclusion of the first artistic project carried out as part of the PhD in Communication, Culture and Arts, aims to promote the work of artist Soraya Vasconcelos and will have artist Pedro Cabrita Reis as guest and examiner.
“Devorar e não digerir” can be viewed until July 05, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Trem Gallery, in Faro.
About the artist: Between 2010 and 2014 she has been developing a PhD project in the area of Visual Arts at the University of the Algarve, supported by a FCT grant. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon (2002), took a Technical Photography Course at ETIC (2002), a Post-Graduate course in Digital Image at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2004) and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Philosophy – Aesthetics from the New University of Lisbon (2010).
She has been an active artist since 2000, holding solo and appearing in collective exhibitions in various galleries and institutions and taking part in artistic residencies. In 2005 she was selected to take part in the first edition of the Photography Course of the Gulbenkian Creativity and Artistic Creation Programme, which led to the foundation of the DOZE collective, in 2006, with whom she works in the fields of photography and publishing, in particular in the project “Paisagem e Povoamento”. In 2007 she was welcomed by INEB (Oporto) as part of the Residency Network Programme: Art, Science and Technology (DGArtes/Ciência Viva). At the moment, her art involves drawing and engraving. In 2011 she joined Contraprova – Atelier de Gravura (Lisbon) and in 2014, after organising – with Margarida Palma – the “Réplica: Reflexão sobre Gravura Contemporânea” programme (2013), she became a member of the Oficina Bartolomeu dos Santos (Tavira ).
