EXHIBITION “OLEB, FELCIA AND LBRD” BY CIAC’S ARTIST-RESEARCHER OPENS TODAY IN LISBON

Today (30 of November ), between 5 pm and 10 pm, visual artist and CIAC researcher Xana (Alexandre Barata) opens his latest exhibition OLEB, FELCIA and LBRD, at Galeria Giefarte, in Lisbon. Curated by João Pinharanda (director of Fundação EDP), the exhibition presents a selection of the artist’s drawings, dated between 2011 and 2015.

The title of the exhibition highlights letters that appear in some drawings and that refer to words linked to values that the artist defends. In OLEB, FELCIA and LBRD, letters/words are not the exclusive aspect of the works, the composition is organized by color and the invention of forms. The drawings, “painted” with a brush on paper, but especially with acrylic and watercolor pens, record lines and stains that build a poetics of eminently visual ideas. According to curator João Pinharanda, “in most of the works presented, the image is (…) a word-drawing, leading us to a field of work inherited from the countless uses of the word in the plastic arts and graphic arts of the 20th and 21st centuries.

In his activity as a visual artist, Xana has held, since 1981, several exhibitions, scenographies or interventions in public spaces. He is represented in several museums and public collections, namely Serralves Museum (Porto), Kunstlerhaus-Musonturm (Frankfurt, Germany), MAAT – Museum of Art Architecture and Technology (Lisbon), Portuguese-American Foundation (Lisbon) and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Center of Modern Art (Lisbon).

OLEB, FELCIA and LBRD is on view until January 14, 2022.

Hours:
Monday through Friday, 11 am to 2 pm and 3 pm to 8 pm.
