Rui Sanches opens Janela, espelho, mapa… [Window, mirror, map…] at the Trem Gallery
As of Thursday, September 29, the Trem Gallery hosts the exhibition Janela, espelho, mapa… by artist Rui Sanches, who is also a Guest Professor at the University of the Algarve.
This exhibition results from the summarising of PhD research, in which the artist reflects on his creation and, at the same time, on the course taken by the arts over the last 40 years.
The exhibition opens on September 29, at 6:30 p.m., in the Trem Gallery, and runs until November 20. The exhibition can be viewed from Tuesday to Saturday, between 12:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
About the Artist:
Rui Sanches was born in Lisbon in 1954. After finishing secondary school, he entered medical school in Lisbon, but soon decided to embark on artistic studies instead. After a stint at Ar.Co, the artist continued his studies at Goldsmiths College and at Yale. Rui Sanches held his first solo exhibition of drawings, in May 1984, at the National Society of Fine Arts (SNBA) Gallery of Modern Art – “janelas, mapas, espelhos”. Indeed, it was in the 80s that the artist first earned renown as one of the most important names in contemporary Portuguese sculpture. The artist has had dozens of solo and collective exhibitions, as well as publications, resulting, on the one hand, from his creative work and, on the other, from his ability to reflect on his work.
