DeVIR NA HORTA DA AREIA: AUDIO WALK, COLLOQUIUM, THEATER AND A BOOK –  MARK THE END OF 3 YEARS OF THE INCLUSION PROJECT

An audio walk that begins in a theatre play and ends with a party in a social neighbourhood, a play with women who live in this humble neighbourhood and with others who live in Faro, a colloquium on inclusion, and the launch of a publication that summarizes the three years of the collaborative project DeVIR na Horta da Areia, to be completed between 14 October and 9 December 2023.

DeVIR na Horta da Areia is a project that involved a group of Portuguese gipsy women who live in the Horta da Areia neighborhood and women who regularly attend CAPa, Algarve’s Performing Arts Center.

On October 14 and 15, the Audio Walk-Crossing, a walk divided into seven stations, which comprises a boat trip on the Ria Formosa and ends in celebration, with a concert, by a group of musicians of Gypsy ethnicity. This is a participatory Creation, directed by the actors Miguel Ponte, Nuno Preto, and Teresa Vaz, which runs through the city of Faro and the contexts of the two groups of women involved in the project.

The University of Algarve hosts, on December 6, in Auditorium 1.5 of the Complexo Pedagógico of Campus da Penha, the Colloquium Inclusão, a moment in which the expectations of all those involved are met with what the project has effectively achieved and with the legacy it may leave. This is, above all, a moment of sharing with the community and the city about the development of these three years of work.

Marking the final stage of DeVIR na Horta da Areia, a revival of the theatre show Travessia, on December 9, at CAPa, Algarve Performing Arts Center.

The result of a participatory creation based on artistic practices for social inclusion, developed by 23 women. Travessia it is a multimedia show, staged by Pedro Alves, in which theatre and dance, cinema and music, literature and visual arts, intersect.

Developed within the scope of the PARTIS & Art for Change Program of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the “la Caixa” Foundation, the project involves a partnership between DeVIR, Association of Cultural Activities, the Vítor Reis Morais Foundation / Horta da Areia Community Center and the Faro City Council.
