GABRIELA BORGES TAKES PART IN THE INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM ‘IMAGE PLAY VIDEO ART FESTIVAL’

On 4 November 2022, 14h00, CIAC researcher Gabriela Borges gives her contribution to the IV Colóquio IMAGE PLAY International Video Art Festival, with the communication “Tecnologia e Transcriação na Poética de Samuel Beckett[Technology and Trans-criation in Samuel Beckett’s poetry]. The festival takes place online, with live transmission on the event’s website.

Gabriela Borges deliberates on Samuel Beckett’s creative process and the arts and media (literature, theater, television, film, and radio). The presentation focuses on the creative process of the play What Where (1986)—which was originally written for the German television Suddeustcher Rundfunk, but was rewritten several times by Beckett himself and, in 2000, transcribed by David Mamet for film and television as part of the Beckett on Film project. The creative process that permeates the different trans-creations allows us to reflect on the arts and technology not only at the end of the 20th century (when the text was written) but especially in the 21st century, where we are immersed in a society of vast technological control.

Hernando Urrutia (CIAC researcher) directs and curates IMAGE PLAY International Video Art Festival. Mirian Tavares (CIAC coordinator) and Adérito Fernandes-Marcos (member of CIAC’s Executive Council) are part of the event’s academic committee.

IMAGE PLAY International Video Art Festival aims to promote a meeting between the languages of video art of different cultures, proposing a reflection and audiovisual thinking, exploring relationships with experimental tendency and/or connection with technology. It aims to the dissemination and assimilation of experiences, methods, and knowledge, enhancing the thought/action and creativity/innovation relationships in the changing experiences of contemporary society.
