INTERVIEW
SÍLVIA QUINTEIRO IN INTERVIEW ABOUT FERNANDO PESSOA AND LITERARY TOURISM
On the 22nd March 2022, CIAC researcher Sílvia Quinteiro was interviewed by Ricardo Belo de Morais, in the item “Fernando Pessoa for all people”, on Rádio Movimento. The conversation focused on Fernando Pessoa’s contribution and importance for Literary Tourism in Portugal, and especially in Lisbon.
Based on Lisbon: What The Tourist Should See, a tourist guide that Fernando Pessoa wrote in the 1920s to promote Lisbon, Sílvia Quinteiro analyses this small guide and compares it with Livro do Desassossego, a work whose references (to sounds, streets and places) allow a tour of the city of Lisbon. This interview seeks to reflect on the legacy and status of Fernando Pessoa and its possibilities of connection with literary tourism.
Sílvia Quinteiro is Coordinating Professor at the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism of the University of the Algarve, where she has been teaching since 1994. She has a degree in Modern Languages and Literature (Portuguese and German Studies) from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and a Masters and Doctorate in Literary Studies, specialising in Comparative Literature, from the University of Lisbon. She coordinates the research group “LIT&TOUR: Literature and Tourism” at CIAC.
