ARTICLE BY ADÉRITO FERNANDES-MARCOS AND MIRIAN TAVARES ABOUT DMAD AVAILABLE ONLINE
“Innovating in open distance teaching with face-to-face retreats within a Doctoral Program in Digital Media Art”, authored by CIAC researcher Adérito Fernandes-Marcos and the Centre’s coordinator Mirian Tavares, was recently published in the Proceedings of INTED 2022 -16th annual International Technology, Education and Development Conference. The article presents the doctoral programme in Digital Media-Art (DMAD), created by Universidade Aberta in association with the University of Algarve and implemented in 2012.
Emphasizing the pedagogical model and the strategy adopted, “Innovating in open distance teaching with face-to-face retreats within a Doctoral Program in Digital Media Art” presents examples of teaching/learning scenarios implemented in DMAD, a program with an innovative hybrid approach, which combines asynchronous distance teaching online (through an e-learning platform) and intensive laboratory sessions in face-to-face format (doctoral retreats).
The course aims to train digital media-art professionals for the most diverse areas of intervention, whether in research, education, artistic, technological and communicational development, with solid skills in computer technologies, communication sciences and artistic and intercultural intervention; able to take the lead in experimentation/research-action projects of artistic and intercultural intervention, individual and collective, which encompass the development of new applications, products and aesthetic narratives.
The INTED 2022 conference took place in online format on 7 and 8 March 2022.
