NEW PUBLICATION
TWO NEW VOLUMES OF THE COLLECTION “MONOGRAPHIC PROMONTORY OF ART HISTORY” HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED WITH CIAC’S SUPPORT
The 31st and 32nd editions of the collection Promontoria Monográfica da História da Arte [Monographic Promontory of Art History], respectively titled Retábulos nas dioceses de Portalegre-Castelo Branco e Santarém and Imaginária retabular algarvia, are already available for download (here). The publications were coordinated by CIAC researcher Francisco Lameira and are devoted to the study and dissemination of altarpieces heritage in the Portuguese Reality,
Retábulos nas dioceses de Portalegre-Castelo Branco e Santarém [Altarpieces in the dioceses of Portalegre-Castelo Branco and Santarém] is a continuation of the collection’s previous volumes. It aims to highlight the vast and valuable remaining heritage of altarpieces in these two regions of Portugal. This research was conducted by Francisco Lameira (CIAC researcher and professor at UAlg), Martina del Rio João (researcher and collaborator of this collection), and António Marçal Grilo (master student of History and Heritage at UAlg).
Imaginária retabular algarvia [Algarve altarpieces imaginary] opens the way to a new form of art history. The identity value of altarpieces’ artefacts in Portuguese cultural heritage was very clear in the previous volumes of the collection. They have been presented in their multiple geographies, typologies, functions, iconographies, material and technical structures, in chronologies of a very wide temporal arch, and in different artistic forms.
The publication of these volumes was produced by the University of Algarve in partnership with CIAC. The collection Monographic promontory of Art History aims to promote the safeguarding and preservation of the altarpieces’ collection in Portugal.
