CHAPTER BY TERESA TORRES DE EÇA AND ÂNGELA SALDANHA PUBLISHED IN NEW SPRINGER BOOK
The paper “Digital Media and Art Education: The European Digital Competence Framework” by CIAC researchers Teresa Torres de Eça and Ângela Saldanha, was recently published in the book Global Media Arts Education, by the publisher Springer. The book brings together a diverse range of scholars who present the latest research on global media art education and provide a unique focus on media art education in an international context.
In this chapter, the authors discuss the key components of the European Digital Competence Framework for Citizens, known as DigComp. They present examples of art education practices in Spain and Portugal, where art teachers are motivating students to creatively engage with digital technologies. One of the examples presented in this study is the Doctorate in Digital Media-arts, created by CIAC. The authors conclude with a discussion on how digital media can contribute to critical pedagogy in art education.
