ANTÓNIO COSTA VALENTE TAKES PART IN CINE GUARNICÊ SCIENCE SEMINAR

On 29 September 2022, at 10h00, CIAC researcher António Costa Valente joined the 2nd edition of the Cine Guarnicê Science Seminar. The Academic event was organized as part of the 45th Guarnicê Film Festival, which took place from September 27 to 29 in a hybrid format (in person in São Luís, Brazil, and was broadcast on the Festival’s YouTube channel).

António Costa Valente led the closing conference of the event, with the communication “Panorama do audiovisual em Portugal.” Concomitantly, he curated the Portuguese International Exhibition, which featured 7 Award-winning short films that premiered at the AVANCA Film Festival. On this occasion, AVANCA granted an Honour Award to Guanice to celebrate its 45th edition.

45th Guarnicê Film Festival is organized by UFMA – Federal University of Maranhão (Brazil). The Festival started in 1977 (which makes it the fourth-oldest film festival in Brazil), but the name “Guarnicê” was only adopted in the event’s 13th edition, in 1990. The name refers to the preparation of Bumba-meu-boi groups [a folkloric parade], which indicates the festival’s connection with the popular culture of the State of Maranhão.
