Artificial Intelligence Highlighted in the XVIII CIAC Conference
Under the theme “Minds and Machines: AI in Communication, Culture, and the Arts,” the XVIII CIAC Conference will take place at the University of Algarve on March 1, 2024, in auditorium 1.4 of the Pedagogical Complex – Penha Campus.
For this edition’s thematic session, we highlight the participation of Geraint Wiggins from Queen Mary University of London (UK) and the Association for Computational Creativity, with the lecture “Artificial Intelligence, Culture, and Creativity: Opportunities for the Future”; Ana Viseu from NOVA FCHS, who will discuss “AI, Data, and the Question of Human Augmentation”; and finally, Joana Pestana from the Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI) – LARSyS, presenting “Remote Conversations with the More-Than-Human.”
In addition to the thematic session, the XVIII CIAC Conference will also include the usual panels dedicated to research and projects hosted by the Center. Presentations will be made under the umbrella of Media Art and Communication, featuring works from students in the Master’s in Communication and Digital Media, as well as the Doctorate in Media Art.
There will also be a panel on Communication and Fiction, as well as a round table with Master’s students in Creative Processes. The conference program concludes with guests from the Mackenzie Presbyterian University (São Paulo), who will present a partnership between Brazil and Portugal in the field of communication and culture education and research.
The event’s motto remains the same: to bring together CIAC researchers and collaborators, both junior and senior, for a day of sharing, problematizing, and discussing projects, publications, methodologies, concepts, and paths.
Participation in the event is free and provides a certificate.
