“Audiovisual Interlockings Brazil-Portugal” Exhibition Open at Galeria D. Manuel II Until October 18

The exhibition “Audiovisual Interlockings Brazil-Portugal” (Interlocuções Audiovisuais Brasil-Portugal) is on display until October 18, 2026, at Galeria D. Manuel II (Fórum da Maia), following its opening on September 18. The initiative stems from a collaboration between the University of Maia (UMAIA), the Research Centre for Arts and Communication (CIAC, through its UMAIA Hub), and L.E.I.A. – Experimental Laboratory of Audiovisual Interlocking at the State University of Paraná (UNESPAR, Brazil).

The exhibition brings together works created by students from UMAIA and UNESPAR, fostering a dialogue between two distinct academic and cultural contexts linked by a shared interest in imagery, the audiovisual medium, and contemporary creative practices.

Images as a Meeting Place and Reflection Space

By framing interlocking as a dynamic process of sharing experiences, perspectives, and work methodologies, the project approaches audiovisual creation as an artistic language, a medium for knowledge production, and a tool to reflect upon the social and cultural realities of Portugal and Brazil.

The initiative also stands out by taking academic production beyond the classroom setting and presenting it in a public exhibition venue. This transition allows student projects to engage with new perspectives and audiences, fulfilling a vital phase in training and bridging the university with the community.

Bridging Education, Research, and Society

The exhibition highlights the importance of connecting education, research, and artistic creation — one of CIAC’s core pillars. The partnership with L.E.I.A./UNESPAR strengthens the development of international networks for scientific and artistic cooperation, establishing a methodology rooted in transcontinental sharing.

For CIAC’s UMAIA Hub and the University of Maia, hosting this event at Galeria D. Manuel II reinforces their commitment to bringing research and university cultural production closer to civil society.
