Bruno Mendes da Silva elected as new coordinator of the Arts and Communication Research Centre
The Arts and Communication Research Centre (CIAC) has a new coordinator. On 14 February, Bruno Mendes da Silva and Mirian Tavares, on a joint list, were elected with the mission of strengthening research and innovation in the areas of arts, communication and digital culture.
Bruno Mendes da Silva has a post-doctorate in Communication, Culture and the Arts from the University of the Algarve (UAlg). He currently holds the position of President of the Technical-Scientific Council and Director of the Department of Communication at the School of Education and Communication (ESEC) at UAlg, as well as being a Visiting Professor at the Saint Joseph University of Macau. With a well-established career in audiovisual communication, he was a director and producer at Teledifusão de Macau (TDM) and has participated by invitation in various international video, digital media art and film festivals, such as FRESH (Thailand), Thinking Media (Korea), Dokanema (Mozambique), Loop (Spain), Festival de La Imagen e Ecologías Digitales (Colombia), The Script Road (China) and FILE (Brazil).
Throughout his career, he has been involved in 23 scientific projects, either as lead researcher or as a research member, and has published around 120 scientific papers, including books and book chapters. He has been a guest lecturer in countries such as Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Tunisia, Mozambique, Brazil, Colombia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea and China, and has supervised several masters and doctoral theses. He is also the Director of Rotura — Revista de Comunicação, Cultura e Artes (Scopus).
The elected Coordination team is committed to expanding the centre’s collaborations internationally, promoting interdisciplinary projects and strengthening the link between research and the community, consolidating CIAC’s role as a benchmark in the study of the arts and communication.
