CIAC Hub of the School of Theatre and Cinema organises the initiative “Two Plays in New State”

The CIAC Hub of ESTC — Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, based at the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, is organising the initiative Two Plays in New State (Duas Peças em Estado Novo) as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of 25 April, with sessions scheduled for 18, 19 and 20 October 2024 at the Aljube Museum.

Two Plays in New State includes the presentation of A Reputation, by British playwright Susannah Finzi, followed by Partida ou a Mulher sem Medo, by Armando Nascimento Rosa. These two works explore and deconstruct, through different voices, the various mechanisms at work in a society ruled by dictatorship, but in which the desire for the implementation of democracy germinates, including figures from the time of the Estado Novo — the dictator and his confessor in ironic dialogue, and the voices of resistance of Arajaryr Campos and Humberto Delgado, murdered by PIDE in 1965.

This scenic event, part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of 25 April, also includes a thematic exhibition that confronts how we question and relate to different levels of reading historical memories.

The initiative consists of three sessions that end with a conversation with the audience and the artistic team, including the authors. The presentations will take place in the Auditorium of the Aljube Museum on 18 October at 19:00 and on 19 and 20 October at 16:00. Admission is free, by appointment only, subject to capacity.

This project has the support of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon and is promoted by the ESTC CIAC Hub.
