CIAC Participates as an Institutional Partner in the 2025 Arquiteturas Film Festival

The Center for Research in Arts and Communication (CIAC) serves as an institutional partner for the 12th edition of the Arquiteturas Film Festival (AFF), taking place from June 25 to 28, 2025, in Porto. CIAC researchers Sílvia Leiria Viegas and Isabel Cristina Carvalho are part of the Selection Committee for this edition, dedicated to the theme “On the Border”, which invites reflection on how physical, symbolic, cultural, and social borders shape territories and contemporary experiences.

The Arquiteturas Film Festival 2025 features 18 films from 14 countries, organized into three sections: Official, Guest Institution, and Special Portugal. The program also includes debates, workshops, installations, guided tours, and a masterclass, with activities taking place across several venues in Porto, including Batalha Centro de Cinema, INSTITUTO, Canal 180, Casa Comum, Circo de Ideias, and APSPBA.

In addition to their curatorial work on the committee, the CIAC researchers will also participate in key festival moments:

• On June 26 at 17:15, they will participate in the debate “Meet the Selection Committee” at Batalha Centro de Cinema.
• On June 27, Isabel Cristina Carvalho will moderate the Q&A of the 17:15 screening, and Sílvia Leiria Viegas will moderate the 19:15 session, both held in the same venue, with the presence of directors whose films are part of the official program.

Organized by INSTITUTO since 2021, the AFF has established itself as an international platform for the dissemination of architecture through cinema and critical reflection on urban space. This year, it features the arc en rêve, Bordeaux cultural center as the guest institution.
