CIAC participates in the 30th edition of the AVANCA International Film Festival
The AVANCA International Film Festival celebrated its 30th edition between 20 July and 2 August 2026. This year’s programme extended across several venues and locations, further reinforcing the festival’s scope and commitment to the promotion and appreciation of cinema and the audiovisual arts.
The anniversary edition featured an award dedicated to films created using artificial intelligence. CIAC joined this initiative by presenting the CIAC Award, which recognises works that explore new possibilities for audiovisual creation.
AVANCA 2026 was the first festival at which the award was presented. The distinction was awarded to the winners of the International AI Cinema Competition – Artificial Intelligence, held as part of the 2025 edition, where To the Bones, directed by Cláudio Sá (Portugal) and produced by Pistachio Studios, received first prize. Second place was awarded to Black Sun, directed by Chih Hao Shen (Taiwan). The awards were presented by CIAC Coordinator Bruno Mendes da Silva.
This year, the competition brought together 15 films from several countries, including Portugal, China, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Japan, the United States, South Korea, France, and Norway.
The AVANCA 2026 programme featured screenings and activities in Avanca, Oliveira de Azeméis, Lisbon, Aveiro, Coimbra, Canelas, and the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira, further highlighting the nationwide scope of this commemorative edition.
