CIAC strengthens its international presence at the Tell.Me 2026 Symposium dedicated to biographical narratives
CIAC – Centre for Research in Arts and Communication is partnering with Tell.Me 2026 – 3rd International Symposium on Biographical Narratives in Arts, Media and Society, an online event to be held on 28 and 29 May 2026, dedicated to exploring the power of biographical narratives in the construction of identity, collective memory, and media literacy in contemporary urban contexts.
In a world marked by information overload and the centrality of digital media, the symposium proposes a critical reflection on how life stories are documented, interpreted, and transformed through different formats, artistic languages, and digital platforms. Biographical narratives—documentary, artistic, or educational in nature—are understood as fundamental bridges between individual experience and culture, capable of preserving memories, valuing knowledge, and questioning social, political, and cultural frameworks.
The Tell.Me 2026 programme includes keynote lectures, research presentations, and contributions from artists and storytellers from various parts of the world. Throughout the event, discussions will address the role of biographical narratives in understanding the pluralism of urban communities, in recovering collective memory from individual experiences, and in promoting cities that are more ethical, media-critical, and culturally aware.
The organisation of the symposium includes the active participation of Adérito Fernandes-Marcos, from the University of Saint Joseph (Macau) and an integrated member of CIAC, who serves on both the organising and scientific committees, further strengthening the Centre’s international links to leading academic and artistic networks. CIAC is also represented by Selma Pereira, a collaborator of the Centre involved in the organisation of the symposium, contributing to CIAC’s visibility in the international debate on arts, communication, and media literacy.
The Tell.Me 2026 Symposium is jointly organised by the Doctoral School and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Saint Joseph (Macau), ARTECH International, ISMAT – Lusófona Education (Portimão, Portugal), and the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (Brazil), in collaboration with the UNESCO MIL Alliance and the CIAC – Centre for Research in Arts and Communication of the University of Algarve.
The event is currently open for both a Call for Papers and a Call for Stories/Artworks, with the submission deadline for abstracts and artistic proposals set for 23 March. In addition to presentation in an international forum, the symposium offers opportunities for publication in high-impact scientific journals.
