CIAC researcher participated in the 6th International Conference on African, Ibero-American and Caribbean Literatures and Cultures

Cármen Monereo, researcher at CIAC, took part in the 6th International Conference on African, Ibero-American and Caribbean Literatures and Cultures, held from 27 to 29 November 2025 at the Universidad Guadalajara, Mexico, in a hybrid format.

The researcher presented a paper titled “China’s philanthropic presence in Portuguese-speaking countries: challenges and opportunities”, contributing to the academic debate on geopolitical, cultural and linguistic dynamics within the Lusophone world. In addition to her scientific contribution, she also served on the event’s Scientific Committee.

Continuing the tradition of previous editions, this year’s conference honoured three prominent figures: Cape Verdean poet António Januário Leite (1867–1930), Afro-Mexican visual artist Yuyé Hernández Nicolás (1980–), and writer and activist for the rights of Afro-Mexican women Aleida Violeta Vázquez Cisneros (1980–).

Bringing together partners from Portugal, Mexico, Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Spain, the United States, Brazil and Colombia, the initiative provides an international space for dialogue dedicated to strengthening the International Network for the Study of African, Ibero-American and Caribbean Literatures and Cultures. The conference aimed to foster discussion on contemporary issues that cut across various fields of knowledge — from linguistic and sociocultural policies to intellectual history, book and publishing studies, arts, memory, resistance, and the impact of women’s writing on current movements and struggles for their rights.
