CIAC researcher Sara Vitorino Fernandez to participate in “No Nations: Punks without Borders”
On 13 November 2026, Sara Vitorino Fernandez, a researcher at CIAC – Research Centre for Arts and Communication, will participate online in the international conference “No Nations: Punks without Borders”, organised by Punk Scholars Network US and Punk Scholars Network Canada.
During a roundtable dedicated to presenting and discussing research directions and projects, she will introduce a study exploring Faro’s punk and hardcore scene as a space of resistance, local identity and transnational cultural exchange.
Through an analysis of lyrics by three bands from different generations, the study examines the evolution of themes such as community, social criticism, vulnerability and collective action. It also proposes the concept of “Faro Style Hardcore” to explore the role of a peripheral scene within global music networks.
The conference invites discussion of the geographical, social and symbolic boundaries of punk culture. Its programme includes paper presentations and roundtable discussions where participants can share and receive feedback on research projects in development. The event will take place online and will be conducted in English.
