CIAC researchers publish article on tourism literacy in an international journal
The article “Promoviendo la alfabetización turística desde una mirada educomunicadora”, authored by Sandra Cristina Côrtes-Moreira (CIAC), M. Amor Pérez-Rodríguez and Miguel Mário Lopes-Neto, was recently published in the scientific journal Comunicación y Sociedad (Mexico), ranked as Scopus Q3 in Communication. The invitation to publish followed the presentation of the paper at the Alfamed Congress, held in Costa Rica in October 2024.
The special issue of the journal was coordinated by Dr Gabriela Borges (CIAC), further strengthening the link between the research carried out at the centre and the international visibility of its scientific output.
The study offers a reflection on the conceptualisation of tourism literacy from the perspective of media literacy approaches. Through structured interviews with Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) in the Algarve, the researchers analyse the perceptions and roles of tourism mediators, highlighting their relationship with the media and their contribution as key agents in tourism processes from an educommunication perspective.
The results made it possible to gather relevant information for the systematisation of tourism literacy competence, identifying essential dimensions and indicators for its development.
