Film “Creators of Idols”, produced by a CIAC researcher, awarded in the United States

The feature film Creators of Idols, directed by Luís Diogo and produced in partnership with Professor António Costa Valente, a researcher at CIAC, was distinguished at the 11th Cobb International Film Festival, held at the historic Strand Theatre in Marietta, Atlanta, United States.

The film won the award for Best International Feature Film, standing out in a competitive landscape of productions from around the world. At the same festival, Portuguese actor Ricardo Carriço received the award for Best Supporting Actor for his intense and critically acclaimed performance.

This new international recognition follows the film’s recent success at the 29th AVANCA – International Film Festival, where Creators of Idols received the award for Best Feature Film in the Avanca Competition. Premiered at FANTASPORTO, where it won Best Portuguese Film, the feature continues its solid trajectory on the international festival circuit.

With a bold and critical narrative about the mechanisms of fame and media manipulation, Creators of Idols follows the story of Sofia (Rafaela Sá), who discovers the mysterious Order of the Creators of Idols, a clandestine group that immortalises celebrities through physical elimination. The cast also includes José Fidalgo, Oceana Basílio, Virgílio Castelo, among others.

Produced by Cine-Clube de Avanca and Filmógrafo, the film was shot in Trofa and Castelo Branco, with institutional support from the respective municipalities and from the ICA – Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual.

The award in the United States marks another successful chapter for Portuguese cinema and for the work of António Costa Valente, consolidating the international presence of film production associated with CIAC.
