Escola Verão Azul returns to Faro for its 2nd edition 

Escola Verão Azul returns to Faro for its second edition, following its first edition in 2024. The programme takes place from 19 to 25 September 2026 under the theme “A Small Step for Humanity”, offering a week dedicated to training, exchange and artistic experimentation. As part of the partnership with the University of Algarve, seven free places were made available to students from the institution.

The initiative brings together three workshops led by artists with experience in contemporary artistic creation at national and international level:

  • Æffective Choreography, by André Uerba, takes dance as the performing art par excellence and explores themes such as intimacy, affection, vulnerability, proximity and relationships through the body. The workshop takes place at CAMADA – Centro Coreográfico from 19 to 25 September. Some participants may also have the opportunity to take part in the performance presented at the Dance, Dance, Dance Festival, at Teatro das Figuras, on 26 September.
  • Black Box Curiosidades + Encantamentos, by Julia Bardsley, combines visual arts and performance, using diagrams, models, choreographies and performative fictions to explore creative processes. The workshop takes place at LAMA Black Box from 21 to 25 September.
  • Gritar, by Flora Détraz, explores the relationship between voice and movement through different vocal possibilities, from screaming to breathing, laughter, singing and polyphony, in a context where choreography, music and performance converge. The workshop takes place at LAMA Black Box from 21 to 25 September.

The workshops are aimed at emerging and professional artists, performers, arts students and people interested in contemporary creative processes, aged 18 and over. Each workshop has a maximum capacity of 20 participants, and participants may attend up to two workshops.

Æffective Choreography is free of charge, while the remaining workshops cost €50 each, or €75 for participation in two workshops.

The 2nd edition of Escola Verão Azul is organised by casaBranca, in co-production with Teatro das Figuras, and in partnership with the University of Algarve/FCSH and CIAC, CAMADA – Centro Coreográfico and LAMA Teatro, among other organisations.

The Escola Verão Azul programme takes place from 19 to 25 September at different venues across Faro.
