International T-C Project with open call for proposals on performance between Portugal, Brazil, Africa and Asia

The international call for artistic and research projects under T-C (Transcloud of Performance) – Platform of Performance Between Portugal, Brazil, Africa and Asia is open until 30 June 2026. The initiative is coordinated by ICNOVA – Institute of Communication of NOVA University Lisbon and includes Mirian Tavares, researcher and vice-coordinator of CIAC, as a member of its organization team.

The project aims to create an international research and curatorial platform dedicated to the study of the “(un)common” or “subcommon” relationships that shape contemporary performance practices in transnational and postcolonial contexts. It seeks to address the lack of a structured comparative field examining artistic practices connecting Portugal, Brazil, and African and Asian territories marked by colonial histories and shared cultural and linguistic heritages.

Conceived symbolically as a constantly moving “cloud”, the platform is envisioned as a space for encounter, circulation and critical reflection on memory, archives, performance and futurity, exploring the multiple connections between different geographies, cultures and languages.

The call is addressed to artists, curators and researchers from the territories covered by the project, inviting proposals that explore the intersections of performance, history, decolonisation, cultural hybridity and transnational imaginaries. Suggested topics include new hybrid and transcultural performativities, (de)colonial representations, performance archives and memories, and the artistic geographies linking Portugal, Brazil, Africa and Asia.

Projects selected by an international jury will become part of an international seminar series with online publication and will later be featured on the platform’s website, currently under development. The initiative will also result in a scientific article and the publication of a special issue of an open-access indexed academic journal.

The seminar series will be organised around five thematic axes: The Future of Ritual; Is Hybridity the New Esperanto?; (De)colonial Representations; Artistic Geographies of Portugal, Brazil, Africa and Asia; and Biennials and Festivals, the Streets and the WWW.

The project team brings together researchers and specialists from several national and international institutions: Cláudia Madeira (ICNOVA NOVA FCSH), Verónica Metelo (CEIS20 – University of Coimbra), André Lepecki (Tisch School of the Arts, New York University), Clara Gomes (ICNOVA NOVA FCSH), Marta Aksn (ICNOVA NOVA FCSH), Mirian Tavares (CIAC/University of Algarve), Teresa Mendes Flores (ICNOVA NOVA FCSH), and Susana Durão (MockingBird Consultancy).

Further information and the full call for proposals are available on the project’s official webpage.
