Jorge Carrega represented CIAC at the Francophonie Day organised by ESGHT

On 3 April, ESGHT – the University of the Algarve’s School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism – held an initiative dedicated to celebrating the French language and Francophonie, with a programme that included debates, institutional testimonies and a film screening hosted by the G.T Film Studies of CIAC – the Centre for Research in Arts and Communication.

With the motto ‘French: a language that opens doors to the world of tourism’, the event highlighted French as a bridge between peoples and cultures and brought together students, teachers and representatives of regional organisations in a meeting dedicated to valuing multilingualism and the strategic role of French in the tourism sector.

The programme featured speeches by leading figures such as Fátima Catarina, from the Algarve Tourism Board (RTA), Hélder Martins, president of AHETA, Aurélie Martins, director of the Alliance Française de Faro and Professor Abílio Guerreiro (UAlg), who highlighted the importance of language training for professionals in the field.

Representing CIAC – Centre for Research in Arts and Communication, researcher Jorge Carrega presented the film La fille de son père (Erwan Le Duc, 2023), which was partly filmed in Portugal. CIAC’s support for the organisation of Francophone Day reflected the Centre’s ongoing involvement in initiatives linked to research and the dissemination of the cultural and linguistic heritage of the Mediterranean, with an emphasis on cinema.
