Jorge Carrega to present the seminar “Transnational Cinema and Mass Culture in Mediterranean Europe”
ESEC and CIAC will host, on April 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., the seminar “Transnational Cinema and Mass Culture in Mediterranean Europe,” featuring Jorge Carrega, researcher at CIAC. The event will take place as part of the Communication Sciences Seminar Series, in Amphitheatre 1.3 of the Penha Pedagogical Complex.
Since the beginning of the 21st century, the history of European cinema has increasingly been analysed from a transnational perspective, focusing on issues such as cultural hybridization and the internationalization of film production.
This seminar will examine the extensive cinematic production of Mediterranean Europe (including both popular genres and auteur cinema) as the product of a transnational creative network, based on major production centres (Rome, Paris, Madrid) that collaborated in the creation of films aimed at international audiences.
About the researcher:
Jorge Carrega holds a PhD in Communication, Culture and Arts from the University of Algarve and completed a postdoctoral project on “Popular Genres and Transnational Cinema in Mediterranean Europe.” He is an integrated researcher at CIAC, where he coordinates the Research Group on Film Studies.
