Lourenço Egreja and Martîm are the next guests for the Visual Arts Cycle
The next Visual Arts Cycle, featuring Lourenço Egreja and Martîm, takes place on 29 April at 2pm in Auditorium 0.4 on the University of the Algarve’s Penha Campus. Free entry.
After returning from the USA in 2003, where he studied under the Fulbright Scholarship, he completed a master’s degree in Art History and Museum Studies at CUNY and worked as a curatorial assistant at Wave Hill, Public Gardens (New York). His first project in Portugal was Anteciparte (2005-2008). During this period he was also invited to curate three artists in the Small Box project. Since 2009, he has been curating the Carpe Diem – Arte e Pesquisa project at the Pombal Palace in Lisbon. Since 2016, he has taken part in ‘Arte Jovem’, a national competition for finalists in art courses in Portugal.
Lourenço Egreja has developed and participated in important curatorial projects at national and international level. Lourenço Egreja has a degree in History from the Lusíada University of Lisbon and was awarded an Erasmus scholarship, through which he studied for a year on the History programme at the University of Barcelona.
Martîm (Funchal) is a visual artist who grew up in Coimbra and currently lives in Lisbon. He has worked in England and Brazil, where he co-founded the interdisciplinary platform MADAME TEATRO and was international relations coordinator for the Belo Horizonte International Theatre Festival (FIT-BH).
He has a Master’s Degree in Painting from FBAUL, a Postgraduate Diploma in Creating Theatre and Performance from the London International School of Performing Arts and a Degree in Mechanical Engineering from FCTUC. She was awarded the Millennium bcp Foundation Young Art Prize 2023, organised by Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa, with the prize for an annual residency at A Base Escola de Arte. Highlights include her recent solo exhibitions in 2024: ‘Ás de Copas’ at Espaço Cultural Mercês, “Interlúdio” at Galeria Branca do AMAC and ‘The Bedroom Series’ at Galeria Plato in Évora and Casa da Esquina in Coimbra. Her pictorial research is influenced by a personal search for the themes of Landscape vs. Identity through painting and ceramics, also applied to the creation of scenic spaces.
