Mirian Tavares and Ana Clara Santos publish the book “Archives, Genealogies and Creation — Cecilia Salles and the construction of a contemporary theory”

Researcher Paula Martinelli recently published the book Archives, Genealogies and Creation — Cecilia Salles and the construction of a contemporary theory, together with Vincent Colapietro, with the contributions of CIAC researchers Mirian Tavares and Ana Clara Santos.

The book’s synopsis states that the work contemplates some fundamental points for the Critical Theory of the Processes of Creation: the importance of archives as indices of creative thought, as living, sounding documents considered in continuity; the demystification of the act of creating and, consequently, of the idea of genius; the discussion of error, chance and intentionality, as well as possible links with education, image studies, music, history, and the intersections between theory and artistic practices. Bringing these aspects together, the book itself becomes a record, research material, a rich and powerful archive that fulfils, in its diverse and complex nature, the function of honouring Cecilia Salles, assuming itself as a creative document about a theory in the making.

Paula Martinelli and Vincent Colapietro invited the authors of this book to compose a mosaic of productions that celebrates Salles’ contributions to a debate that today occupies a place of great relevance in the humanities and has reached other areas of knowledge, as the journeys of each of the contributors to this publication show us.

Mirian Tavares pays tribute to Cecilia Salles in this book, with the chapter entitled “It is written. In the great book of popular wisdom […] Or about mismatches and reunions — my tribute to Cecilia Salles”. Ana Clara Santos contributed a chapter entitled “The time of genetic criticism: approaches to the study of creative processes”.
