Mirian Tavares participates in forum on the impact of technology on culture

Mirian Tavares, researcher and Vice-Coordinator of CIAC, will be one of the guest speakers at the Culture Forum, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, taking place on 8 June in Tavira and Loulé, Portugal.

Under the theme “The Impact of Technology on Culture: Effects and New Expressions”, the event will bring together experts, creators, institutional representatives, and cultural practitioners to reflect on the challenges and opportunities that technological transformations pose to the cultural sector.

The Culture Forum programme will begin with a public session, followed by speeches by the Mayor of Tavira, Ana Paula Fernandes Martins, and the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Margarida Balseiro Lopes. Throughout the afternoon, several thematic panels will address technological innovation, cultural heritage, and the future challenges facing cultural institutions.

Mirian Tavares will participate in Panel I, dedicated to exploring the relationship between technology, artistic creation, and contemporary cultural production. The panel will also feature João Cascalheira, João Pedro Fonseca, and Leonel Moura, with the participation of Pedro Pina, and will be moderated by Duarte Baltazar. The session will take place at Museu Zer0, in Tavira, and will include an open discussion with the audience.

The event will conclude in Loulé with the ceremony awarding the Cultural Merit Medal to writer Lídia Jorge. The ceremony will feature performances by Dino d’Santiago and a wind quintet from the Francisco Rosado Conservatory of Music of Loulé.

Mirian Tavares’s participation in this forum reinforces CIAC’s role in fostering critical reflection on the impacts of digital transformation on the arts, culture, and contemporary society, contributing to the public debate on new forms of cultural creation, mediation, and participation.
