Nuno Aníbal Figueiredo will be the guest speaker at the May session of the Visual Arts Cycle
The final session of the 2025–26 Visual Arts Cycle will take place on 26 May 2026, at 3 pm, in room 2.37 of the FCHS, with free admission. The guest speaker will be cultural producer Nuno Aníbal Figueiredo, who will discuss his work, particularly within the scope of the P28 association and the gallery of Pavilion 31 at Hospital Júlio de Matos.
Nuno Aníbal Figueiredo was born in Lisbon in 1974. Since 2001, he has maintained a regular activity as a producer and editor in the fields of arts and culture, being responsible for the implementation of several projects, from funding to direction and executive production. He was a university lecturer in Semiotics and Sociology of Art at IADE – Institute of Visual Arts, Design and Marketing (2005–14) and at the Autonomous University of Lisbon (2000–05), where he graduated in Communication Sciences. He also worked as a journalist and film critic for publications such as O Independente, DNa – Diário de Notícias, and A Capital.
A member of the board of Associação e Editora Número – Arte e Cultura since 2002, he directed and programmed events such as Número Projecta – International Festival of Multimedia Arts, Cinema and Music (Lisbon, 2006–08), Festival Português – International Festival of Portuguese Arts and Culture (London 2002–03, Barcelona 2004, Paris 2005, Madrid 2006 and Berlin 2007), and Interferências – Public Art Exhibition (Lisbon and Porto, 2010–12). In the field of contemporary art, he has curated and organised several exhibitions, among which the most notable are Políptico (BES Arte e Finança, Lisbon, and PHoto España, Madrid, 2012), Onde é a China? (Beijing World Art Museum, Beijing, and Museu do Oriente, Lisbon, 2014), Prata da Casa (Anjos-Arroios, Lisbon, 2020–21), and Homem Morto Passou Aqui (Lisbon Municipal Photographic Archive, 2021). He is also editor and co-author of several publications, particularly the anthological editorial projects Portugal: Um Retrato Cinematográfico (N Books, 2002), Videoarte e Filme de Arte e Ensaio em Portugal (N Books, 2008), and Arte de Furtar / Furto na Arte (N Books/Stolen Books, 2019), the latter dedicated to appropriationism and plagiarism in art.
In addition to being a board member of Número – Arte e Cultura association, he is co-director of P28 – Associação de Desenvolvimento Criativo e Artístico, where, since 2023, he has been responsible for coordinating several projects, namely the contemporary art programme at the Pavilion 31 gallery at Hospital Júlio de Matos.
