Paulo Alexandre e Castro releases book on the contemporary challenges of education and technology
CIAC researcher Paulo Alexandre e Castro is the editor of the book Beyond the Book: How Technology Is Shaping Education, a work that offers an in-depth reflection on the emerging dynamics between education and technology in a context marked by rapid digital transformation.
The result of an interdisciplinary dialogue and a shared creative concern among its contributors, the book addresses key issues in contemporary education, exploring how technology influences pedagogical practices, human relationships, and ways of thinking about knowledge. Throughout its pages, readers are invited on a journey that brings together philosophical reflection, literary sensitivity, and a critical attention to everyday educational and technological realities.
Beyond the Book thus seeks to open space for critical thinking that does not relinquish the relational and human dimension of education, often overshadowed by the fast pace of contemporary life and increasing technological mediation. The volume presents itself as a gateway to a universe of ideas that is both accessible and rigorous, while maintaining a strong ethical and human depth throughout educational processes.
The book is currently available for pre-order (here) and will be officially launched in January 2026. The presentation in Portugal is scheduled for 26 March 2026, with the session and venue to be announced soon.
With this publication, Paulo Alexandre e Castro strengthens CIAC’s contribution to critical and interdisciplinary debate on the relationships between technology, culture, and education, reaffirming the relevance of the research carried out at the centre at both national and international levels.
