Rudolfo Quintas receives Norberto Fernandes Prize for Contemporary Art
A CIAC contributor, Rudolfo Quintas was honoured with the Norberto Fernandes Contemporary Art Prize, awarded by the Altice Foundation, in the Art and Technology category, for his work “Sentiment Data Painting – World News”.
It is an interactive digital painting connected to the internet, which dynamically reads online newspapers from around the world and transforms the interpreted feelings of the news into spots of colour.
Excerpt from the jury minutes: ‘It problematises the digital condition of our daily lives, contextualising the present time in its global apprehensions. By editing media sources, it emphasises the absolute need for contemporary viewers to critically situate themselves in relation to the agents that produce information content. The conceptual transparency of the process is matched by an open and poetic plasticity.’
The jury was made up of researcher Helena Barranha, art critic Isabel Carlos and curator Miguel Von Hafe Pérez. The Norberto Fernandes Prize is an initiative that aims to promote and energise Contemporary Art in Portugal, supporting innovative and creative projects in the categories of Art and Technology and Young Artists with a total prize of 40 thousand euros.
