Sílvia Viegas and Isabel Carvalho are part of the selection committee for Arquiteturas Film Festival 2025

CIAC researchers Sílvia Leiria Viegas and Isabel Carvalho are members of the Film Selection Committee for the 12th edition of the Arquiteturas Film Festival, which will take place from 26 to 29 June 2025 in Porto. Films can be submitted until 1 December 2024.

The 2025 edition of the festival will be held under the theme “At the Border”, with the aim of exploring how physical and symbolic borders shape built environments and territories, influencing daily lives, individual and collective identities and social dynamics. The initiative also aims to examine how these lives and identities, when encountering systems of social control through border regimes and urban boundaries, in turn shape built spaces.

The call for submissions for the 12th edition of the Arquiteturas Film Festival is now open until 1 December 2024. Films should relate to the festival’s theme and explore the bodily, emotional, performative, material, visual and spatial politics of cross-border human mobility. The festival aims to promote a more inclusive and socially conscious approach to architectural thinking and practice, ultimately helping to challenge borders.

The Selection Committee is made up of Ana Miguel Regedor, Isabel Cristina Carvalho, Mira Samonig and Sìlvia Leiria Viegas. The Jury will be made up of Fabrizio Gallanti, Julia Albani, Romullo Baratto, Teresa Novais and Vasco Mendes.

The films will be selected by an interdisciplinary committee, this year formed in collaboration with INSTITUTO, the festival organiser, and two Algarve institutions, namely CIAC — Research Center for Arts and Communication and Cineclube de Faro.
