Sílvia Viegas in ESREA — Active Democratic Citizenship and Adult Learning Research Network Conference
CIAC researcher Sílvia Leiria Viegas will be presenting her co-production “To be [hope], or not to be, that is the [socio-spatial] question” at the ESREA Active Democratic Citizenship and Adult Learning (ADCAL) Research Network Conference, dedicated to the theme “Thinking against the grain: Critical Pedagogy, Popular Education and Revolution”.
Their participation aims to explore the idea of a digital space to create and reinforce the (re)construction of communities. It also focuses on the use of digital media tools to make diversity visible and recognisable. It argues that the creation of a digital roadmap based on a specific ethical-methodological approach to socio-spatial interculturally can help reduce inequalities and strengthen inclusion. Likewise, it adopts a collaborative and participatory approach to emphasise grassroots knowledge, while aiming to decolonise standard epistemologies, narratives, or practices. The presentation concludes with disruptive digital seeds of hope (in the utopian and practical world), underlining the importance of small actions and experiments in the context of the emergence of far-right anti-democratic groups and political polarisation.
The event takes place on 24th, 25th and 26th october 2024 at the University of Algarve’s Faculty of Human and Social Sciences(FCHS) on the Gambelas Campus.
