The upcoming Communication Sciences Seminar Series focuses on Transnational Journalism


On April 19th, at 2:00 PM, José Manuel Simões, a professor at the University of Saint Joseph in Macau, will deliver a lecture on “Practical Cases of Transnational Journalism: a case study in Macau-China” as part of the Communication Sciences Seminar Series.

The event will take place in Amphitheatre 1.3 of the Pedagogical Complex, at the Penha Campus of the University of Algarve, in a hybrid format, and will be part of the Transnational Communication Curricular Unit, taught by Professor Cármen Monereo, aimed at 2nd-year students in the Communication Sciences degree at UAlg.

José Manuel Simões is a distinguished academic in the field of media, art, and technology, currently serving as Head of the Department of Media, Art, and Technology and Associate Professor at the University of Saint Joseph, Macau-China. With a prior 15-year career as a cultural journalist in Portuguese newspapers, José Simões has an extensive academic background, including a PhD in Global Studies and a postdoctoral degree in Communication Sciences.

His passion for research has resulted in publications in five languages and significant contributions to the field, including works on Media Ethics, Multicultural Journalism, and Media Studies in Portuguese-Speaking Countries. In addition to his academic career, he is also the author of eleven books, a performer of artistic performances and video art exhibitions, and has directed videos and documentaries. His role as coordinator of Communication and Media programs at the University of Saint Joseph positions him as a respected and influential figure in his field of expertise.

The Communication Sciences Seminar Series is an initiative that has been developing in recent years, in collaboration with professionals and the community. The sessions are promoted by researchers from the Communication Sciences working group at CIAC, lecturers in the undergraduate courses in Communication Sciences, and the master’s program in Digital Communication and Media at ESEC-UAlg.
