[Eustáquio Neves: photographic subject]
Brazilian artist Eustáquio Neves makes photography a tool of political-social provocation, transforming the image into a space and time conducive to interlocution about current relations — and about what they have in common with founding aspects of Brazilian society.
Political outcry and visual complexity are constructed by hybrid processes, which blend techniques from diverse languages into overlapping layers. The recognition of the complex nature of these images is inevitable, resulting from processes that intertwine with each other and with the conjuncture in which they are created and employed; from a hybridity of techniques and procedures that unfolds in another complexity – space-time; material, sensitive, and intellectual – established in the links between author, work, and bbserver.
In this book, The images authored by Neves are starting points for a comprehensive discussion about photography and, still, about the image of art. A result of encounters between the author and the artist, as well as visits to the studio and interviews with him, the book takes shape by transposing the complexity of the processes to the academic writing itself, in the establishment of theoretical links and in the renunciation of purisms. Thus, the reflection on the production of meaning through creation processes begins.
