CIAC’s ESTC research hub, based at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School, which is an organic unit of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, has existed since CIAC was founded in 2007, and has been going through a new period since the 2020-2023 triennium, with the entry of new members, which also corresponded to the first time that the hub was given its own budget, thanks to the Very Good rating awarded to CIAC by the FCT in the most recent evaluation. The core group of CIAC researchers at the ESTC/IPL center carries out its research and/or applied creation activities under the heading of Performativities. This conceptual designation encompasses multidisciplinary approaches to research and artistic creation that mobilize above all: stage production and its languages; aesthetics and dramaturgy; the body, voice and space in the arts of physical and/or virtual presence; the critical and historiographical reception of theater and the performing arts.
The multi-mode horizon of Performativities includes knowledge, questions and artistic practices inherent to the PhD – taught with contributions from the two departments of ESTC (Theatre and Cinema) – in Performing Arts and the Moving Image (a PhD taught in partnership with the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and other organic units of UL and IPL Higher Artistic Education), and which also emerge from the five specializations of the master’s degree in Theatre at ESTC (Performing Arts; Theater and Community; Staging; Stage Design; and Production), as well as the three specializations of the Master in Cinema at ESTC, called Cinematographic Project Development (Cinematographic Narratives; Dramaturgy and Directing; Post-Production Technologies).
From the point of view of disseminating the research results of its members, the ESTC hub of CIAC has established partnerships with publishing and/or artistic production entities such as: Imprensa Nacional – Casa da Moeda; Sistema Solar; Húmus; Ponto de Fuga; Tradisom; Teatro Nacional São João; Centro Cultural de Belém; Teatro Estúdio Fontenova; Cinemateca Portuguesa; EGEAC/Teatro Municipal São Luiz and Museu do Fado; Biblioteca e Arquivo Regional de Ponta Delgada.
Keywords to configure the programmatic lines of research and applied creation under the aegis of Performativities: scenes, rehearsals, images, texts, concepts, communities and music.
