Absonus Lab presents Negentropy Nexus by Hugo Paquete

Absonus Lab presents the online residency Negentropy Nexus: Reimagining Electronic Opera — Art and Technology in the Post-Digital Age. The project proposes a space for creation and reflection that brings together international artists, theorists, and researchers from different fields to explore the frontiers of electronic art, sound arts, artificial intelligence, performance and post-digital aesthetics.

With a focus on disruptive concepts such as hyperobjects and speculative futures. Based on the concept of negentropy — the force that creates order from chaos — the proposal challenges current paradigms about the post-digital and aesthetics of dysfunctionality in contemporary art, opening up space for new interpretations about the applicability of technology, digital regularity, shared creation between humans and machines and artistic meaning. The residency is presented as an extension of Hugo Paquete’s project “NEGENTROPIA: O Último Homem na Terra Devastada” (2024), exploring a conceptual articulation with the resident authors.

Artists of different nationalities are taking part, including Ana Santos (De-PT), Cláudio de Pina (PT), Daria Baiocchi (IT), Dan Antoniu (USA), Jack ‘Mia’ Shamblin (USA), José Carlos Teixeira (USA-PT), Simona Dichio (IT), Sónia Carvalho (PT), Pedro Alves da Veiga (PT), R. Gritto (FR-PT), Vaida Tamoševičiūtė (LT) and Židrija Janušaitė (LT).

Hugo Paquete is the curator, while Absonus Lab’s creative team is in charge of the digital content. Production is also carried out by Absonus Lab, with Erica Frota as production assistant and Susana Nobre in charge of financial management.
