Adriana Freire Nogueira publishes a chapter in the book (Re)Visiting the Greco-Latin Classics in the Classroom

CIAC researcher Adriana Freire Nogueira wrote the chapter “Metaphorisations of the myths of the Cretan cycle in the poetry of Ana Luísa Amaral: didactic challenges” in the book (Re)Visiting the Greco-Latin Classics in the Classroom, coordinated by Cláudia Cravo and Susana Marques.

The book brings together various contributions that mainly analyse texts by Portuguese authors from different eras, in order to revisit the Greek-Latin classics in the classroom. The diversity of these sources aims to inspire primary and secondary school teachers to promote different educational methods in their classes. In this way, they will be able to motivate their students towards the reception of Classical Antiquity in the Portuguese-speaking world.

As far as Adriana Nogueira’s chapter is concerned, according to Nogueira, the article starts from a mythological basis and is organised into two parts, preceded by an introduction, which refers to various aspects of the tradition and reception of the myth of Ariadne: “in the first part, the aim is to understand the role of the metaphorisation of the myths of the Crete cycle in Ana Luísa Amaral’s poetry; in the second, to start from the challenges that these myths pose and discover their potential for the teaching of contemporary poetry, particularly in secondary education, but not limited to it,” she says.
