Ana Isabel Soares takes part in “O Movimento das Coisas” Conference

Ana Isabel Soares, a researcher at CIAC, will take part in the conference The Movement of Things a film by Manuela Serra (O Movimento das Coisas um filme de Manuela Serra), on 4 October, with the individual paper “The Romantic Movement of Things, Eco-Feminism and Slow-Cinema”.

The film The Movement of Things, the theme of the day, was directed by Manuela Serra in 1985 and premiered after a long wait of 36 years, with its commercial premiere in 2021. Production on the film began in 1979, when Manuela Serra embarked on shooting her first and only work as a director. However, the project was only completed in 1985. The film was initially shown at the Mannheim Film Festival, where it received the prestigious FilmduKaten award, but despite the recognition it received, it never achieved commercial distribution. Now, in a version restored from the 16mm camera negative preserved by the Cinemateca Portuguesa, the film has resurfaced. With an original soundtrack composed by José Mário Branco, “The Movement of Things is described as a visual poem that portrays the daily life of a rural community.

The day dedicated to the work of Manuela Serra will take place on 4 October at 10am at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon (FLUL), in Amphitheatre III. Admission is free.

It is organised by the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, the Cinema, Audiovisual and Contemporary Imaginaries Cluster (CITCOM) of the Centre for Comparative Studies of the University of Lisbon and is supported by the FCT — Foundation for Science and Technology.
