CIAC researchers publish in Media, Practice and Education Journal

Ana Carvalho, Célia Vieira, Inês Guerra Santos, and Rosimária Rocha, CIAC researchers, have published an article titled “The online teaching of the performing arts in higher education in a context of confinement as a creativity challenge” in the journal Media, Practice and Education (vol.25, no.1).

The article’s abstract notes that “the expansion of cyberperformance has been noticeable through the growing access to and effective development of digital technologies for the performing arts, reinforced by the pandemic scenario of the past two years.” The authors state that “for educational institutions, particularly higher education and especially in the creative sector, creativity has become the key word for adapting to a new reality that has led teachers and artists to experiment with online performance models due to their ability to reinvent methodologies and forms of interaction.”

Thus, this article presents the initial findings of the CyPet research project, conducted by CIAC. Based on these initial results, the authors aim to “map the landscape of the performing arts both in the context of teaching and online/hybrid practice and, consequently, as a result, propose a new pedagogical model for both higher education and artistic postgraduate education.”

Media Practice and Education is a peer-reviewed journal that celebrates the role of creative media practice in the higher education sector and its important place in our society. By bringing together the distinct but interdependent pillars of media practice, media theory, and media education, the journal is characterized by media praxis and provides a critical bridge between the traditional written article and alternative forms of creative and critical dissemination.
