Dário Rodrigues to address “Generative Artificial Intelligence in Education” in PLDIS webinar
Researcher Dário Rodrigues will deliver the lecture “Generative Artificial Intelligence in Education” on June 1, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. This event is part of the webinar series promoted by the Digital Literacy and Social Inclusion Hub (PLDIS) of CIAC, based at the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém. The session will take place online via the Teams platform, with free participation.
The webinar will be grounded in the recommendations of the OECD Digital Education Outlook 2026 report, which warns of the risk of AI being used as a shortcut to ready-made answers, reducing cognitive effort and weakening long-term learning. Based on this framework, the session will be structured around two main axes:
1. From ready-made answers to critical thinking: pedagogical practices with generative AI
How to design activities that require students to question, justify, and critically assess AI-generated responses rather than passively accept them. Concrete examples will be presented, including assignment prompts, assessment grids for the critical use of AI, and mechanisms for verifying effective learning (such as AI-free mini-tests and written reflection).
2. Beyond the classroom: social and professional implications of AI literacy
The ability to critically engage with AI systems is not only an academic skill but also a professional and civic competence. This section will address the impact of generative AI on graduate employability, the reconfiguration of professional roles that increasingly involve collaboration with AI agents, and the responsibility of higher education institutions in preparing students for a rapidly transforming labour market.
