Fátima Noronha publishes article in international journal dedicated to Terminology

Fátima Noronha, a researcher at CIAC, has published the article “Terminological Variation in Specialised Discourse: The Case of the Mediterranean Diet” in the latest edition of the journal Terminologija.

Fátima Noronha’s article explores how terminological variation produced by different groups of specialists affects terminological databases. Using the Mediterranean Diet as a case study, it highlights a domain where traditional activities have their own embedded knowledge and terminology, yet it shows that it is rare to account for the main terminological resources. In this context, the text offers a perspective on the concept of specialist and specialised discourse, enabling a more efficient organisation and better understanding of the origins of diastratic variation. It also presents a theoretical framework, based on ecolinguistics, for domains where traditional communities act as specialists.

Terminologija (in English, Terminology) is an international research journal focused on Lithuanian terminology and general linguistics. Published since 1994, it addresses both theoretical and practical aspects of terminology. The journal aims to cover diverse areas of terminology and presents terminological experiences from other countries and the latest ideas on foreign terminology.
