Hugo Paquete directs Dan Antoniu’s online telematic performance

Hugo Paquete, researcher at CIAC, directs the “Negentropy Nexus” online residency, which promotes collaboration between artists, theorists and researchers, fusing electronic music, digital art, AI and multimedia performance. This initiative encourages innovative artistic expressions and reflects on the role of art and technology in shaping new cultural landscapes.

One of their collaborations is in Dan Antoniu’s online telematic performance: “Intertwining Infinities of Humans, Earth, and Sky – Online Residency Negentropy Nexus”, organised by Absonus Lab. This innovative piece explores the hypnotic rhythms of animals, humans and our brains, fusing them with technology to create perceptual environments.

The piece contains field recordings of insects and birds from Uzbekistan, with an orthodox Semantron ritual, and real-time brainwave sounds by percussionist Edward Cunneen. Cunneen and pianist Jixue Yang perform live, exploring a dynamic score where the performers navigate through various text boxes, guided by Dan’s visual commands to mould the sound in real time. The performance is inspired by Walter Thompson’s soundpainting and the conducting techniques of Iancu Dumitrescu and Ana Maria Avram. This event promises a unique interaction between performers and electronics in different states. Dan’s vision is to establish a bridge between nature and humanity, creating a hypnotic sea of rhythms.

“Intertwining Infinities of Humans, Earth, and Sky” will take place on December 11th, 2024 at 8 pm.
