Manuel Flores joins the training team for the Leadership for Learning Programme
The fifth edition of the Leadership for Learning Programme brought together 172 teachers from 86 schools across Portugal and Spain throughout the 2025/2026 academic year. The programme aimed to strengthen educational leadership as a driving force for improving student learning and supporting organisational development within schools.
The programme began in July 2025 in Barcelona with an intensive training course led by specialists from the Institute of Education at University College London (UCL). Manuel Flores, researcher at CIAC and the University of Algarve, joined the international team of trainers, contributing to the delivery of the programme and mentoring participants throughout the programme.
The closing session of the fifth edition also took place in Barcelona, from 8 to 10 July 2026, bringing together participants, facilitators and the coordination team for a final opportunity to reflect on the programme, exchange experiences and evaluate the impact of the school-based projects developed during the course. Manuel Flores also took part in the closing session, contributing to the consolidation of participants’ learning and to the dissemination of good practices in educational leadership.
Grounded in research on educational leadership and collaborative professional learning, the programme combined theoretical training with the practical implementation of improvement projects in school settings. Each participating school was represented by its leadership team, composed of two members of the school leadership, who were responsible for designing, implementing and evaluating a school improvement project tailored to the specific needs of their educational context. This approach fostered sustainable change with a positive impact on student learning and organisational development.
Manuel Flores’ participation in this international initiative reinforces the commitment of CIAC and the University of Algarve to research, advanced training and knowledge transfer in the field of educational leadership, helping bridge research and practice while promoting sustainable improvement processes within educational organisations.
