The DMAD Retreat will be held at the Open University in Lisbon

The 11th Doctoral Retreat in Digital Media Art (DMAD Retreat 2024) is being held this week from July 15 to 19 at the Open University in Lisbon.

The event will feature institutional representatives from the Open University, the University of Algarve, the Director of the Digital Media Art Doctorate, Mirian Tavares, the Vice-Director, Pedro Alves da Veiga, and the organiser of the Doctoral Retreat, Pedro Pestana, who are all researchers at CIAC.

This year’s DMAD Retreat highlights the intersection of knowledge and experiences facilitated by the convergence and transdisciplinarity of scientific, cultural, and artistic fields, as well as the strengthening of community bonds within an educational community that usually interacts remotely.

The programme includes Artist Talks with Ana Marques, João Onofre, Pedro Alves da Veiga, and António Costa Valente; presentations of ongoing research projects by Digital Media Art Doctorate students in the Capacity Research Assessment (PACI) and Intermediate Results Presentations (ARI); artistic performances; and a workshop on sensors and attenuators. The programme also features the exhibition “Circuitos: Exposição de Média-Arte Digital“, where DMAD students showcase their artistic artifacts developed during the course.

DMAD doctoral retreats are spaces for learning, debate, and sharing knowledge and research experiences among students, teachers, speakers, and guests. This week of intense academic and sociocultural activity contributes to the construction of an original and pedagogically cohesive community, where idea exchange, work analysis and evaluation, among other educational activities, lead to the development of proposals, relevant research projects, and meaningful learning experiences.
