The Gambelas Library hosts the seminar “The Creation Process of the Opera The Little Prince”


The seminar “The Creation Process of the Opera The Little Prince” will take place on 24 May at 17:00 in the Conference Room of the University of Algarve Library, on the Gambelas Campus. This event is organized by the Master’s Programme in Creation Processes, of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, University of Algarve.

The seminar is part of the Cross-disciplinary Seminar II course and will feature director Jorge Balça and baritone Rui Baeta, with moderation by CIAC researcher Ana Clara Santos. There will be a firsthand presentation of the creative process behind the opera The Little Prince, adapted from Rachel Portman’s 2003 opera based on Saint-Exupéry’s 1943 work. This piece is co-produced by the Algarve Orchestra, with support from ACTA, and its premiere is scheduled for 1 June at Teatro das Figuras.

Synopsis:
A pilot with a broken-down plane in the Sahara Desert desperately attempts to repair the damage. Meanwhile, he encounters a little prince who mysteriously appears. The little prince, who lives on an asteroid in space, has a unique perspective on the world. Together, they share deep conversations and reflections on life, friendship, love, and human nature. The narrative is rich with symbolism and valuable lessons.
