The C3M2 group – Communication of/within science and cultures: multilingualism and mediations – carries out research into communication of/within science and cultures, as a verbal, non-verbal and/or multimodal representation of scientific knowledge and know-how in different media. Communication in/of science and cultures is understood to be the set of processes and practices of constructing, transmitting and receiving research methods and information, scientific knowledge and cultural manifestations with different constitutive and communicative intentions, in different media and with different audiences in mind. These themes are essentially observed in contexts of diversity of different kinds, in which multilingualism, interculturalism and mediation needs (including issues of teaching and learning languages and cultures) are particularly important. The group members’ work focuses on the following aspects:

  • Discourses, discursive reformulation and the construction of knowledge (diachronic, synchronic, diastratic, diatopic, etc. aspects);
  • Teaching and learning languages and communicative processes and resources;
  • Scientific literacy and mediation;
  • Multilingualism in science and cultures and epistemic justice;
  • Semiotic, artistic and/or interactive representations of science and cultures;
  • Terminologies, variation, translation and communication;
  • Language and communication policies.

In addition to research on the above themes, the members of C3M2 are constantly involved in initial and postgraduate training in these areas.

The group’s activity is articulated with CIAC’s objectives, permanently seeking points of confluence with the other groups.
