Cecilia Salles

Cecilia Salles is an international reference in the field of Creation Processes, with over 30 years dedicated to this field of study, which has grown significantly in recent years, in part due to her contributions. She is the author of several books on the subject, including “Unfinished Gesture: Artistic Creation Process” (1998), “Genetic Criticism: A (New) Introduction” (2008), “Networks of Creation: Construction of Works of Art” (2006), “Creation Archives: Art and Curatorship” (2010), and “Group Creation Processes: Dialogues” (2017). She is a Full Professor in the Postgraduate Program in Communication and Semiotics at PUC-SP, as well as a Guest Professor in the Master’s Program in Creation Processes at the University of Algarve, where she was involved in the creation of the program. She is also the Coordinator of the Research Group in Creation Processes at PUC-SP, where she supervises innovative studies based on the cross-sectional approach to Creation Processes. She participates in various national and international projects, focusing on the approach to Creation Processes; and, since 2019, she has collaborated with CIAC, significantly contributing to the advancement of contemporary discussions on the topic.

Manuela Penafria

Manuela Penafria is Associate Professor at the Dept. of Arts, from the University of Beira Interior (UBI) where she received her PhD in Communication Sciences, Cinema variant, in 2006, and is a researcher at LabCom and iA* Arts Research Unit. At UBI, she teaches in the BA and MA in Cinema courses such as “Cinema Theory I”, “Arts Research”, “Filmmakers on Film” and also coordinates the documentary module of the Cinema Project curricular units and teaches Cinema Seminar modules on programming and cinephilia. She is co-editor of the DOC On-line journal dedicated to documentary film. At AIM she is a coordinating member of the Working Group “Filmmakers on Film”. She has participated in evaluation panels in entities such as A3es-Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education or ICA-Cinema and Audiovisual Institute and in juries of competitions and academic exams in national universities and polytechnics. Among her publications, she highlights two pedagogical dossiers for the National Cinema Plan, the collection of three books about the cinema theory approach under the designation Filmmakers on Film (Ed. LabCom, 2016 and 2017), the co-edition of the book Filmmakers on Film- Global Perspectives, by BFI, 2023 and the book chapter “Unfinished: the cinema of Noémia Delgado” published in the book Women’s Cinema in Contemporary Portugal, edited by Mariana Liz & Hilary Owen, by Bloomsbury, which received the AIM Best Essay Award, 2022.

Leonardo Mouramateus

Leonardo Mouramateus (Fortaleza, 1991) is a Brazilian filmmaker, dramaturgist, and screenwriter based in Lisbon since 2014. Master in Multimedia Art by the University of Lisbon, graduated in Cinema and Audiovisual at the Federal University of Ceará, always staying close to the performing arts and dance dramaturgy. He wrote and directed films shown at several festivals such as Locarno, Viennale, IDFA, Cinéma du Réel and Bafici. Retrospectives of his filmography were presented in Portugal, France, Colombia, and more recently at the IFFRotterdam. “Antonio One Two Three” (2017), a Portuguese-Brazilian co-production and his first feature film, premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival. “Life is Two Days” (2022), his second feature film, premiered in the international competition at FIDMarseille, received an honorable mention of the international competition jury. “Greice,” his third feature film, premiered in 2024, at the Rotterdam Film Festival.

A creative workshop based on the study of movement and its poetic developments. What other ways of being in space can expand the perspectives of the body? How can the same sequence of movement be danced with different versions and qualities of presence? Scenic situations will be individually and collectively investigated based on movements, created images, and transitional articulations of meaning, in order to expand the possibilities of assembling, demolishing, and reinventing dramaturgies.

Kenia Dias

Kenia Dias is a director, performer, and professor in the Department of Performing Arts at the University of Brasília. Her research focuses on investigating bodily dramaturgies for the stage and analyzing records of creative processes. She works with various artists, collectives, and dance and theater companies across the country. In 2023, she was nominated for the Cesgranrio, APTR, APCA, and Shell awards for best movement direction and also for the ensemble for the play “Sem Palavras” by the Companhia Brasileira de Teatro. She has been the movement director for plays such as “Vaga Carne” by Grace Passô, “Stabat Mater” by Janaína Leite, “Eu de Você” by Denise Fraga, “Nós” by Grupo Galpão, “Outros” also by Grupo Galpão, “O Filho” by Teatro da Vertigem, and “Contrações” by Grupo 3 de Teatro, which were also awarded and nominated for best play and ensemble by APCA, SHELL, Cesgranrio, Bravo!, among others. Her recent works include “O Que Só Sabemos Juntos” with Denise Fraga and Tony Ramos, directed by Luiz Villaça, for which she signed the movement direction (2024); “Residência Vôo Livre-Sonho Manifesto” with Companhia Brasileira de Teatro, as a collaborator (2024); “.m.a.n.i.f.e.s.t.a.” co-directed with Marise Dinis with Companhia de Dança do Palácio das Artes/MG (2022); “Sem Palavras” with Companhia Brasileira de Teatro directed by Márcio Abreu (2021, with 11 award nominations). She holds a PhD in Communication and Semiotics from PUC-SP, a master’s degree in Arts, and a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Interpretation from the University of Brasília, and is a member of the Research Group on Creative Processes at PUC-SP.

Wagner de Miranda

Wagner de Miranda is a visual artist, actor, theater director, cultural manager, and professor at the Centro Universitário Belas Artes de São Paulo, where he coordinates the Graduate Program in Theater and Performance. He is an actor trained at the Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras (CAL) in Rio de Janeiro. He founded and directed the Cia Teatro das Epifanias from 2002 to 2007, a company that won the São Paulo City’s Theater Funding Law in 2007 and was part of the Ateliê Compartilhado project. As the artistic director of Cia Espontânea de Teatro, founded in 2010, he directed works such as “Malas, palhaços e cambalachos” – awarded best actor, costumes, and set design at the II Festival de Teatro da Cidade de São Paulo, and “Tia Emanuelle”, nominated for best musical at the Bibi Ferreira Award, and the dance/performance show “Sintonia”, presented in various countries such as Brazil (Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo), Mexico (University of Puebla), and the United States (New York and Miami). As actor, he has worked with directors like Amir Haddad, Marcio Vianna, Dagoberto Feliz, Marilena Bibas, Tizuka Yamazaki, Emílio di Biasi, Luiz Fernando Carvalho, and Gabriel Villela. He is the author of the book “Roberto Alencar: O corpo em trânsito” and several book chapters and articles on creation processes in various academic journals, and one of the editors of the Collection Processes of Creation. He is a guest lecturer in the Master’s in Creation Processes at the University of Algarve and a collaborator researcher at the Center for Research in Art and Communication (CIAC/UAlg), through the international collaboration protocol with the Research Group in Creation Processes at PUC-SP. He holds a PhD and a Master’s in Communication and Semiotics, in the line of Creation Processes in Communication and Culture (PUC-SP), a degree in Visual Arts and Theater, and a postgraduate degree in Art History – Theory and Criticism. His research field mainly includes multidisciplinary artistic and communicational processes in contemporary scenic experimentation.

The increasing multiplication of functions, processes, and multimedia image systems demands, more than ever, a critical understanding that considers the image as a complex environment of interconnected languages, practices, and objects. Based on the Metaimage proposal, which aims to expand the idea of an image beyond visual representation, we will explore senses, memory, and play as ways of experimenting with the image as a multimodal element. Through sensory investigation exercises and creative group dialogues, we will discuss concepts, capture image translation processes, and produce possible narratives and propositions of the sensory image.

Camila Mangueira

Camila Mangueira is a professor, designer, and artist-researcher integrated into i2ADS – Institute for Research in Art, Design, and Society, where she is responsible for the Media Filosóficos (PhilMe) project. She is interested in the relationships between logics, media, and image devices in the analog and digital realms from the perspective of creation processes and media archaeology. She holds a postdoctoral degree in Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto with the critical-creative proposal of Metaimagem and a PhD in Communication and Semiotics (PUC-SP) with the thesis The Photographic Thought. She is a guest lecturer in the Master’s in Creation Processes at the University of Algarve and a collaborator researcher at the Center for Research in Art and Communication (CIAC/UAlg), through the international collaboration protocol with the Research Group in Creation Processes at PUC-SP.

Fabrício Fava

Fabrício Fava is a multidisciplinary designer and researcher at i2ADS – Institute of Research in Art, Design, and Society, where he promotes research through design. As the moderator of the interest group in Playful Interfaces and Speculative Design (iLudens), he has been exploring playful methodologies and expanding the idea of playful design as a way to develop creative thinking. He holds a PhD in Communication and Semiotics from PUC-SP with a thesis on the multidisciplinary relationships between design, creativity, games, and learning from a systemic perspective.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution, curator Susana Rodrigues appropriated the code name given to the two captains from Algarve who fought for the region’s inclusion in the national revolution.  

Thus, the exhibition “Operation Bangkok” brought together nine artists, most of them from Algarve, to exhibit in the north of the country, returning now in this pop-up version as part of the 2024 CIAC International Conference on Creation Processes.  

Through their practices and techniques in painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, and photography, these artists take us to their territory with diverse perspectives, addressing topics such as landscape and urban architecture, local traditions, natural and urban sounds, and the political, social, and environmental concerns of the region.

Guided Tour of the New Headquarters of Associação 289 – Collective Exhibition “Disruptive Deviations”

As part of the CIAC International Conference on Creation Processes, Associação 289 is hosting a guided tour of its new headquarters and the Collective Exhibition “Disruptive Deviations,” with the presence of the artists.  

The tour, scheduled for Monday, October 28, at 7:30 PM, is one of the conference’s Cultural Activity recommendations, aimed at those interested in exploring the artistic production of the region.  

Associação 289 (@289_FARO) was born from the desire of a group of visual artists residing in Algarve to find a space where they could develop their work. What started as a small group of just three or four people quickly grew, consolidating the idea of creating an association.  

Initially driven by the search for a new workspace, this effort has evolved into an association that currently comprises 21 members dedicated to enhancing visual arts in the Algarve region.  

The association’s new headquarters, recently inaugurated in Cercado da Atalaia, is hosting the collective exhibition “Disruptive Deviations,” which opens on October 28 at 7:30 PM with a guided tour by the artists, in the context of the CIAC International Conference on Creation Processes.

Reading Performance in Process – Leonardo S.

As part of the CIAC International Conference on Creation Processes, performer Leonardo S. will present a Reading Performance of his letters “Semente” (“Seed”) and “Apetite de Movimento” (“Appetite for Movement”).  

The letters are a form of writing that connects to distances. They have both a sender and a recipient, embodying a displacement, a journey between two points. In the first, Leonardo S. explores pathways between friendship and creation, and in the second, between the body and creation.  

Leonardo S.’s Reading Performance will take place on the final day of the event, October 29, at 5:30 PM, in room 1.5 of the Pedagogical Complex of Penha at the University of Algarve, concluding the conference dedicated to the themes of creation.  

Leonardo S. (@olhosenormes) (Recife, Brazil, 1981) is an artist, professor, and producer of theater and performance. His work includes writing, collage, and artistic walks. He is a Master’s student at PPGAC (University of São Paulo), holds a Postgraduate degree in Creation Processes from FCHS (University of Algarve), and was part of PACAP 5 (Advanced Program in Performing Arts Creation) at Fórum Dança, Lisbon. He holds a degree in Performing Arts from the University of Brasília.  

Leonardo S. was a student in the first class of the Postgraduate Program in Creation Processes at the University of Algarve.
